And tapping.Unknownnoreply@blogger.comBlogger6125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30740798.post-72467866329943619062010-07-30T10:17:39.275-05:002010-07-30T10:17:39.275-05:00I agree with you wholeheartedly on these issues. ...I agree with you wholeheartedly on these issues. I also think that if a school owner feels the need to have his students school every person that comes into the club off the street, that is not exactly showing the ‘no ego’ side of jiu jitsu.Annehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17202791989315643545noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30740798.post-12240003997521229912010-07-29T08:24:11.583-05:002010-07-29T08:24:11.583-05:00I really like the looking-out-for-your-mat-buddies...I really like the looking-out-for-your-mat-buddies thing. We do it too (but I also agree that it happens very seldomly)

The time I spend on the mat is sacred to me. Sacred. If someone tried to keep me off it (by intentionally trying to hurt me, e.g. yanking something before I get a chance to tap or slamming me from guard or saying let's go easy then proceeding to try to rip my head off) I have no qualms about tapping, standing up in front of the whole class and telling him in a clear voice and under no uncertainties that that behaviour will not be tolerated. I'd make sure it's brought to the attention of the gym owners and to my coach.

I know some people at our gym think that I joke sometimes when I say I love them. I'm dead serious. If I had no mat-buddies, I would have no Jiu Jitsu. If a person comes in and has no respect for that they will never ever be welcome there.

A white belt guy once couldn't tap one of our blue belt girls (whom he outweighed by a fair share) from side control so he decided to grab her thigh and head and yank them together in a wrestler's cradle type thing to get a quick tap for his fragile ego.

Martyn saw that and took him up next. He smoothly and efficiently made him aware of every nerve ending in his body before he told Karl, our then gym owner. Karl stood us all up and asked the guy to apologise to her and never ever show his face at our club again.Liam H Wandihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15592644859626736304noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30740798.post-51914125073039105252010-07-28T16:38:11.044-05:002010-07-28T16:38:11.044-05:00I totally agree, BJJ is a marathon, not a sprint. ...I totally agree, BJJ is a marathon, not a sprint. You have to train with this in mind to protect yourselves and your training partners from injuries(even minor ones that will accumulate). Some people may let things 'pop', rather then tapping.. sometimes its better just to work on your positioning, chokes, and when you to get a lock don't try to injury your friend(training partner).Shawn Aukstakalnishttp://www.submissioncontrol.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30740798.post-53643656707708410472010-07-28T15:25:55.578-05:002010-07-28T15:25:55.578-05:00Hey Georgette! :) I decided to do a post about the...Hey Georgette! :) I decided to do a post about the welcome on my blog to kind of explain it how Fabio explained it to me. Fill the gaps. The Idea is to be gentle so both learn. I just rolled with my kids for 2 hours this morning. one is 80 the other is 150. I am in the 4's( Hence the name Buddha). No Injuries just a good sweat while learning movement and reaction. Heck- We even did some blindfolded rolling to work on sensory perception. Keep the spazzy closet warriors of the mat Please?NY Buddah ( Dory)noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30740798.post-85446446682676688192010-07-28T12:49:11.457-05:002010-07-28T12:49:11.457-05:00Amen, sister.Amen, sister.Devhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06331257882063185349noreply@blogger.com
