Budovideos responds on Fightworks Podcast....

Jake from Budovideos.com responds to the concerns regarding fair coverage of women's matches at major tournaments on this week's Fightworks Podcast, in an interview with Caleb. Caleb pointed out the blog post from yours-truly that raised the issue and Jake was kind enough to thank me on air.

Basically, though this is not a quote, Jake's answer was they weren't prepared with another camera to do a split screen. At the Pan there were up to 10 matches running at a time, so they had to pick. Because men and women happened at the same time, they had to go with the more popular choice, and there are more people who want to watch men do BJJ. But he agreed it was a pretty good chance that they'd show some women's matches at Mundials because there, they don't run men's and women's finals at the same time.

I want to extend my most sincere appreciation to Caleb and the Fightworks Podcast for getting an answer and to Dave and Jake of Budovideos.com for helping promote coverage of women in this beautiful sport.

If you have strong opinions about watching women's BJJ at the Mundials I encourage you to let Budovideos.com know!

Nice. Hopefully they'll live up to their word and show some of the womens' matches at Mundials. If not, you'll have to fly out there and do another 80 hours worth of video taping so we can have some coverage!! ;)

As some people noted on my facebook page, it's not at ALL clear that people "want to watch men more than women."

i know that i have purchased several gis from them, in the past. from my contibutions alone they should have enough to pony up for another camera. terrible excuse, imo.

I've watched the live stream and i've listened to the fightworks podcast, but I'm not convinced on budovideo's politically correct answers. There were a lot of females who were competing who are more famous than most of their male competitors. Kyra Gracie, Hillary Williams, Gabrielle Garcia, etc. During the live stream they were showing male matches with competitors no one had ever heard of. It's hard to believe they couldn't find space in there busy schedule to show at least a few female matches. We have to put up with so much in this sport already, it's disappointing to see this type of behavior from one of the major grappling organizations.

Not sure I saw Kyra at the Pan, but the rest of those names plus Michelle Nicolini, Fabiana Borges, Val Worthington, Tammy Griego... I agree. I think everyone with feelings/opinions on this issue needs to communicate them to Budovideos.
