Hey... Southwest Airlines had a sale (ends tomorrow!) and I jumped on a roundtrip ticket to San Diego in November. Looks like I'll be checking out some of the excellent jiu jitsu out there.
Talk to me about San Diego! Who lives there? where should I go? etc etc!!! :)
thanks!

The Zoo is a wonder. The main tourist attraction part of it is large enough to spend 5+ hours walking around enjoying the sunshine, animals and beautiful layout. They have buses, gondolas and things like that for tours, but I walked it myself.
There's a Safari Park linked to it, which is absolutely massive. I've not been there, as it was 30+ miles away and I was on foot.
Balboa Park is kinda cool, the downtown is fun (lotta bums though) and there is so much jiu-jitsu everywhere.
Unfortunately, I was there a few years before I started rolling, so I did the touristy stuff and stayed at some relatives' places without going to any gyms.
*spits wine all over the room*
Who should you train with?!
Saulo and Xande. Atos. Those are my dream schools.
Rodrigo Medeiros in Pacific Beach and Clark Gracie in La Jolla...
there's so many schools in SD though, you really can't go wrong.
ATOS!! Andre Galvao's school is in SD!
Train at Atos. I was there last week and those guys were great. Andre teaches the classes and everybody is super cool to train with.
@Tree Frog- lol, I totally wasn't even thinking of non-jiu jitsu things.
I'm hoping to find out I know some San Diego jiu jitsu peeps :)
Saulo and Xande would be my vote, but I am bias because I have trained with those guys before. No doubt the other schools mentioned in the other comments would also be really cool to visit. How long are you out there, long enough to make the rounds to multiple schools?
November 9-16. If I can save money by couch surfing, I will spend it on privates and renting a car with the potential for checking out Kron's school in Culver City and the Gracie Mother Ship in Torrance...
The jits is important, but if you're going there, you can't be rolling 24/7. Your significant other would likely collar choke you out of frustration. Have to throw them some delightful vacation bones too.
Explore the food, try surfing and all the other San Diego-specific things you can. Maybe even catch a Chargers game (if there's a season).
I sent you an e-mail with my contact info, where do you want to eat? What kind of food do you like?
@Tree: haha, I understand. However I'm coming alone; I've been to SD before, and I'm strictly coming there for the jits. My hubs and I are hitting NYC the last week in October to combine a vacation (shopping, salsa, relatives) and jits (Marcelo! Marcelo! Marcelo!)
Have fun!! And come to Florida next! ;)
Rodrigo!
Not sure if your recent injury will change your plans, but figured I would give you my 2 cents. Clearly there is lots to do here in San Diego. The Zoo, Sea World, Wild Animal Park, beaches, etc.
If you want to focus on Jiu Jitsu, your choices are endless. Saulo, Andre Galvao, Rodrigo Medieros, Fabio Santos, Baret Yoshida... and don't forget Leticia Ribiero. She has a great all girls group that trains together.
